FAQs
How do you define your role as a Divorce Coach?
As a Divorce and Breakup Coach I am a trained professional who specialises in providing bespoke, individual support to help you manage the overwhelming emotional, logistical, and decision-making aspects of divorce or breakups, so that you can move forward with clarity and confidence toward a brighter future.
I not only offer a skill set of proven coaching techniques, knowledge of the divorce process, and practical advice for clients but also the unique benefit and learnings from my own personal experiences.
What is the difference between a Divorce Coach and other divorce professionals?
Whilst I am able to provide relevant information and guidance to clients about the various aspects of divorce, I encourage them to engage other specialist professionals such as Lawyers, Financial Advisers or Mediators, where appropriate, because:
- I am not qualified to give legal advice, represent clients in court, negotiate settlements on their behalf, or draft legal documents. That is the role of a Divorce Lawyer.
- I am not qualified to give financial advice or structure a financial settlement. That is the role of a Financial Adviser.
- I do not work neutrally with both spouses to reach consensus or agreements. That is the role of an accredited Mediator. As a Divorce Coach I work closely with just one person.
Even though these other professionals deal with clients going through divorce or relationship breakdowns every day, they are typically not trained or equipped to deal with the emotional aspects their clients may be experiencing. This is precisely where I can help.
What is the difference between Divorce Coaching and Counselling?
Both can help during breakups and divorce, but they focus on different things.
Divorce coaching is future-focused, working with you to help you manage the practical, logistical, and emotional aspects of separation and divorce, including co-parenting or legal preparation.
Counselling usually looks backward and inward. It focuses on emotional healing, processing past trauma and understanding deep-seated psychological patterns.
So, Divorce Coaching focuses on preparing for your future. Counselling focuses on healing your past.
Do you also provide Marriage Guidance counselling?
No. Typically that is provided by someone who specialises in helping couples explore the root causes of their relationship issues with the goal of either repairing it or separating amicably.
As a Divorce Coach I work one to one with clients.
How can you help with the legal and financial aspects of divorce?
Whilst I am not qualified to give actual advice on legal or financial matters, I can provide the relevant information and guidance about the legal, childcare and financial settlement aspects of divorce that will help you understand how things work when preparing to deal with those professionals and help you save time and money.
I can help you find a Family Law Solicitor or a Financial Adviser to provide that qualified advice when needed.
Do you only help clients going through a divorce?
No, I can also help you whatever stage you find yourself at: whether grappling with a decision to apply for a divorce, suffering from the breakup of your non-marital relationship or struggling to move forward even though your divorce has been finalised.
My coaching can help you define what is important to you, dial down your emotions and take back control of your life so that you can make better-informed decisions and move forward with optimism and confidence towards a brighter future.
What formal training or qualification do you have?
I am formally trained and accredited by the International Divorce Coach Centre of Excellence (IDCCE), a programme certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), but my real qualifications come from the heartache and distress I experienced from my own divorce and how I learned to recover from it — lessons I am keen to use to benefit you.
Is it really worth hiring a divorce & breakup coach?
Many people find divorce & breakup coaches especially useful in high-conflict situations, or when feeling “stuck” emotionally, or when they want extra support to stay focused and make clearer choices without derailing the legal process.
How quickly can I get started?
As quickly as is mutually convenient! After your free 20-minute Discovery Call consultation we can arrange your first session at a time that works for you.
How do your coaching sessions take place?
My coaching sessions are typically conducted online via Zoom video calls. They can be arranged for a time of mutual convenience and offer a space that is confidential and secure.
Once a session is booked, I will send you an invitation to the Zoom session with some joining instructions and recommendations for how best to have our call.
I can help you set up the Zoom application, if necessary, then, when the time comes, all you will have to do is log in to Zoom at the appropriate time and click on the invitation.
Are your coaching sessions confidential?
Yes, absolutely. Everything that we talk about is completely confidential and handled with respect, sensitivity and professionalism.
How long do your clients usually need coaching for?
Every situation and client need is different, so it varies.
Some clients only need two or three sessions to be ready to move forward. Others benefit from ongoing support throughout the divorce process.
We will always work at a pace that feels right for you.
What if I am already undergoing therapy?
You can still work with me.
Therapy supports your emotional healing whereas my coaching will focus on helping you make practical, confident decisions and handle day-to-day challenges of your situation.
It is not unusual for some clients to do both.
How much do you charge?
An initial 20-minute Discovery Call with me will be free of charge.
If you decide to go ahead with my coaching, your first session will be for 90 minutes and cost £95.
Thereafter you can choose to buy individual 60-minute sessions with me, as and when you need them, for £95 each or buy packages of 3 or more sessions at a more competitive price.
We can discuss and agree what suits you best after we have had our first session.
